What factors determine the cost of a courier service in the UK?

Type of Load
There are so many types of loads that are sent around the UK everyday. These include: domestic parcels, confidential documents, samples, fashion accessories, car parts, construction supplies, office goods, new and used equipment, items for live events, garments on hangers, and so much more.
Therefore, each type of load may have it’s own criteria for transport and therefore will be a factor in the quote supplied by the courier.

Type of Service
Once the type of load is established, the type of service can be determined.
For regular loads, this may simply be a standard same day or future date service.
However, for more specialist types of load i.e. transporting high value items or confidential documents, a higher service level will be required. This may include using specially trained drivers, special type of vehicle, tracking and many other options that can affect the quote.

Size of Load
The size of the load will affect the courier price. As loads range from small documents up to multiple pallets, it is clear that different size vehicles are needed.
This impacts, to some extent, the cost of delivery especially due to the fuel consumption of each vehicle.
The PPM or pence per mile rate will usually increase for larger vehicles.

Distance
The distance that the item has to travel between point A and B or from collection to delivery directly affects the UK Courier Prices. This is linked to the PPM mentioned in the above section.
